How cask sharing works

Casks are listed by filling date, newest first. Only casks with available shares are included.

Understanding cask shares

A cask share remains connected to its cask.

A cask share relates to one specific whisky cask – not to an anonymous pool. Its cask profile records what is known: provenance, distillery, cask number, maturation age and the number of shares still available. This keeps the selection connected to the story of an individual cask and to the information published for it.

Maturation takes time. While a cask rests in the warehouse, provenance, wood and its maturation path remain the central points of reference. Our cask-sharing page explains the route from cask profile and maturation through to bottling preparation, step by step. See how cask sharing works.

Only when a cask is scheduled for bottling does its history become a specific delivery. The number of bottles per share depends on the fill level and the time of bottling. The process includes the documentation or certificate for the share as well as the practical work around bottling. Every share carries a mandatory completion fee for processing through to bottling. The share price, completion fee, total price and any further costs such as shipping must be published for each cask before sales open.

When comparing casks, look beyond the name and read the published cask data. That makes it easier to understand which cask, provenance and maturation path suit your own selection. The number of available shares can change as selections are made; the information shown on each cask page remains the reference point.
